Independent Reggae label: Blue Beat Records was Subsidiary
label of Melodisc Records Ltd. set up by Emil Shallit and Siggy Jackson in
August 1960 to record and distribute Jamaican music in the UK. Later the label
also sponsored a popular ska night at the Marquee Club in London and played a
major role in the popularisation of ska. In 1989 The Blue Beat Records was
started again by Buster Bloodvessel of the Ska revival band Bad Manners. Buster
licensed the name and logo of the original 1960's Ska label Blue Beat. The label
released vinyl between 1989 and 1990 including many of the short lived 'Skacid'
style records popular at the time. Blue Beat Records was started again in 2005
Blue Beat Records former address: 33 Spring Hill, London E5. It issued
singles in a BB-0400 numerical series. No.1 Station are an eight-piece
English band who play in ska, rocksteady and reggae styles. They are considered
to be the vanguards of a new generation of Blue Beat. No.1 Station have been
responsible for the resurgence of Blue Beat Records and have released half a
dozen acclaimed singles on the imprint. Distributed By Blue Beat
