BRONZE
RECORDS
Independent label: Bronze Records based in Chalk Farm, London was
Started in 1971 by Gerry Bron, who was formerly with Vertigo, By 1980 Bronze had
established itself as one of the major independent labels and was dedicated to
British music. It was releasing mostly rock music but was open to other styles
as well. In the mid 80s, Bronze sales went down. The label folded in financial
difficulty in 1986, with the catalogue being sold to Ray Richards' Legacy
Records. It subsequently passed to Castle Communications plc.c. In the beginning
distribution was through Island Records, from 1977 through EMI and changed again
to Polydor in 1980. It was reported in early 2003 that Gerry Bron and Pete Brown
had "renewed an association that went back over many years. They realised that
they still had one outstanding interest in common - a love of music -
particularly British music. So the Bronze label was launched again. It has since
become defunct again. It managed one singles. It issued
singles in an BRONZE-000-7 numerical series. Distributed By Piccadilly
Records.
